Former Negros Oriental representative Miguel L. Romero is a
distinguished legislator, lawyer and media practitioner. He is
currently senior partner of the Romero, Valdecantos, and Valencia
Law Offices. He is also chairman and chief executive officer of
MICA Holdings, Inc., and chairs the Milro Management and Development
Corporation.
In his years serving the Philippine Congress, Director Romero
was instrumental in the passage of various legislative measures
such as the Internal Revenue Allotment Law, the Bases Conversion
Law, the National Steel Law and Philippine Economic Zone Authority
Law. He was also consistently voted as one of the top ten outstanding
congressmen since 1987 by various media organizations, NGOs, and
academic institutions.
Director Romero was also majority floor leader and chairman
of the Committee on Rules and Resolutions of the 9th and 10th
Congress in the Bicameral Commission on Appointments, the first
congressman in 30 years to hold that distinction.
He was also chairman of the sub-committee on Economic Diplomacy,
vice chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and member
of eight other committees in the House of Representatives.
Director Romero has an extensive experience in managing various
firms. From 1998 to 2000, he was a member of the Board of Directors
of the Philippine National Bank. He had likewise served, in various
capacities, the PNB Holdings Corporation, Century Holdings Corporation,
MEJA Group of Companies, and Asian Trading Corporation. Director
Romero also has affiliations with the Kidney Foundation of the
Philippines, Integrated Bar of the Philippines, and the Chamber
of Commerce of the Philippines.
Director Romero graduated from the Silliman University in 1958.
He went to the Ateneo de Manila University for his Bachelor of
Laws degree and passed the Bar exams in 1962.
