DBP Underscores Gains Under Arroyo Administration
February 4, 2010
DBP highlighted its major achievements from 2001 to 2009, particularly in funding projects that are aligned with the priority programs of the Arroyo administration, during the Bank’s 63rd anniversary celebration graced by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo last January 25 at the Bulwagan ng Diwang Pilipino.

The anniversary program focused on the Bank’s contributions in the achievement of the Ten Point Agenda of the Arroyo administration, particularly in four major areas — infrastructure and logistics; social services; micro, small and medium entrepreneurs; and environmental protection.

The DBP Board of Directors led by Chairman Patricia A. Sto. Tomas and President & CEO Reynaldo G. David also turned over to President Arroyo and Finance Secretary Margarito Teves a ceremonial check representing DBP’s dividend contribution to the national government for 2009, amounting to P2.5 billion. The dividend comes in the heels of a banner 2009 which saw DBP posting an unprecedented P6.09 billion net income.

DBP, the Department of Labor and Employment, and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration also presented to President Arroyo a Memorandum of Understanding for an integrated OFW assistance program. In the pipeline under this program is the Health Clinics on Wheels program that will provide affordable health care services especially in underserved areas and the mini-gas station dealership program, a livelihood project for OFWs and their dependents.

President Arroyo likewise unveiled a scale model of the DBP Green Building which will soon rise at The Fort Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. The soon-to-be-constructed building will utilize green architecture — including solar power harvesting, modern roof for reduced heat gain, a storm drainage system for additional water supply, natural light, insulated walls for heat buffers, and water conservation features. Groundbreaking for the 54-storey building will commence later this year. Two storeys will be initially constructed which will house DBP offices. Of the 54 floors, 70 percent will be used for office space while the rest will be for residential/commercial purposes.

On the same occasion, the President was also presented with the gold trowel used by her father, the late President Diosdado Macapagal, in laying the cornerstone of the DBP Head Office building 46 years ago.
