DBP Net Income Hits P6.09-B in 2009

DBP posted its highest net income ever of P6.09 billion last year even as it continued to support its mandated role of supporting the country’s sustainable development by funding projects in four priority areas, namely: infrastructure and logistics; environmental protection; social services; and micro, small and medium enterprises.

President & CEO Reynaldo G. David said that the amount represents a 70-percent increase from the P3.6 billion net income registered in 2008. Total assets stood at P292 billion, up from P263.25 billion previously. Capital adequacy ratio was recorded at 21%, while total available funds for lending stood at P74.4 billion as of 2009.

DBP continued to support the developmental efforts of the national government with P91.6 billion — out of its total loan portfolio of P167.01 billion — appropriated for developmental projects. DBP lent P17.5 billion to infrastructure and logistics, majority of which was channeled to projects located in the Cordillera Autonomous Region, Southern Mindanao, Southern Mindanao, Central Luzon, Central Visayas, Ilocos, and Southern Tagalog. The Bank also supported environmental initiatives amounting to P6.1 billion for projects involving new and renewable energy, solid waste management, cleaner technology, and pollution control and abatement, among others. Most of these projects are located in Central Luzon, Northern Mindanao, Central Visayas, Ilocos, Bicol, and Western Visayas.

Some P11.8 billion in funds were released for micro, small and medium enterprises projects located in Ilocos, Southern Tagalog, Central Visayas, and Central Luzon. DBP appropriated a total of P9.5 billion for social services projects such as hospitals and schools, in Bicol, Southern and Northern Mindanao, Central Visayas, Central Luzon, Ilocos, and Southern Tagalog.
