The Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) commemorates its 63rd
anniversary with a refreshed image and revitalized spirit while remaining steadfast in its commitment to championing the growth of the country’s key sectors for development, particularly infrastructure and logistics, the environment, micro, small and medium enterprises, and social services.
Aligned with these continuing thrusts, DBP is embarking on an institutional campaign to more vigorously sustain the delicate balance between its development efforts (as seen in its lending, advocacy, and subsidiaries aligned for development) and business operations (as seen in its regular banking products and services).
Reinforcing DBP’s image as a forward looking, more responsive and efficient development financing institution, the Bank has adopted a strategy that involves institutional strengthening, product development and upgrading of skills/knowledge of its employees as well as its physical facilities.
Key to DBP’s corporate re-branding is its new logo that is a fundamental visual representation of its renewed spirit and dynamism amid changing times. Set against blue, the DBP symbol now communicates its adherence to the highest standards in mobilizing resources for economic growth.
Side by side with its re-branding campaign, DBP also remains consistent with its back-to-basics approach that gives greater focus on maximizing its competitive businesses, putting on more financial muscle, and ensuring the safety of the Bank’s credit book and balance sheet that should result in earnings predictability. These should enable the Bank to prioritize development programs that are sustainable, reliable, and provide continuity for the greater good.
Top priority will also continue to be placed on DBP’s priority programs such as the Sustainable Logistics Development Program and those that aim for more efficient health care, education, housing, and other basic services for more Filipinos. The Bank shall also strengthen its corporate social responsibility program – particularly through the DBP Endowment for Education Program, DBP Forest Program, and its initiatives for the overseas Filipino workers – to allow it to provide much-needed development intervention to identified eligible beneficiaries.
DBP officially marked its 63rd year last January 2. The Bank traces back its history to 1947 when it was established as the Rehabilitation Finance Corporation that was tasked primarily with providing credit facilities for the development of agriculture, commerce and industry and the reconstruction of properties damaged by the war. The RFC was reorganized into the DBP in 1958, which ushered in its involvement in broader activities and expanded facilities and operations to accelerate national development efforts.
To commemorate DBP’s 63rd anniversary, a Thanksgiving Mass to be officiated by Fr. Fernando Suarez, CC of the Mary of the Poor Foundation together with Fr. Mario Sobrejuanite of the Society of St. Paul, and Fr. Larry Tan, Salesians of Don Bosco, as co-celebrants will be held on January 6, 2010 (Wednesday), starting at 10:00 a.m., at the Bulwagan ng Diwang Pilipino. |
