DBP is stepping up its energy conservation efforts in line with Administrative Order No. 126 that directs the enhanced implementation of the government’s energy conservation program.
Issued by President Arroyo last August 13, AO 126 mandates all government agencies to adopt additional measures to limit the use of petroleum products supplies to essential activities to reduce their fuel consumption by 10% of the average monthly consumption for the first semester of 2005. It also calls for the reduction of electricity consumption by 10 percent, in addition to the 10 percent reduction mandated under AO 103.
Enercon measures
The Bank has launched an extensive campaign promoting the prudent and responsible use of electricity and fuel its head office and branches.
As part of the energy saving measures, the operation of the Bank’s centralized air-conditioning system has been reduced by two hours. It now operates from 9:00 in the morning up to 4:00 in the afternoon. During lunch breaks, air-conditioning units are turned down to “fan” mode.
DBP officers and employees have also been encouraged to further support the energy conservation program by practicing the following energy-saving measures:
• Use natural daylight to reduce artificial lighting.
• Turn off lights and electrical equipment such as computers and peripherals which are not in use during lunch break (12:00 to 1:00 p.m.)
• Limit the use of individual electrical appliances such as electric fan, airpot, microwave oven, etc.
• Except for physically challenged personnel and those carrying heavy loads, use the elevators only when going up or down two or more floors.
• Avoid the use of air-conditioners (for packaged-type units) during the cool months of August to February.
Gas-Saving Device
DBP has also tested from August 25 to September 2 two gas-saving devices — the Khaos Super Gas Saver and Envirotek BioActiv Diesel Buster - on Bank vehicles.
Khaos Super Gas Saver, which was conferred a Presidential citation as most outstanding invention in 2003, regulates air-to-fuel ratio that results in efficient fuel combustion. It reportedly offers savings of up to 50% on gasoline consumption.
The Envirotek Bioactiv Diesel Buster, on the other hand, is a type of coco-methyl ester (CME) fuel. The government is promoting the use of at least one percent of CME in all diesel-powered government vehicles. An anti-air pollutant that upgrades engine performance and saves up to 20% on gas consumption, the Diesel Buster also reduces smoke emissions in compliance with the standards prescribed by the Clean Air Act.
Gas-saving devices are tested on DBP vehicles in support of the government’s energy conservation program.
A comprehensive maintenance program for DBP vehicles is being put in place to maximize fuel consumption |
