SLDP Cited for Role in National Economy
July 12, 2004
The Sustainable Logistics Development Program (SLDP) earned a citation from the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP) for its contribution to the Philippine economy. The program bagged the Plaque of Merit award under the infrastructure development category during the 27th Annual ADFIAP meeting held in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

ADFIAP recognized SLDP’s three-component projects, the Road Ro-ro terminal system, the Grains Highway, and the Cold Chain Highway for its comprehensive integrated transport, related infrastructure and support services in the countryside. It also cited the SLDP’s role in drastically reducing the price of basic commodities in line with the government’s poverty alleviation program and the attainment of good sufficiency at the local, regional and national levels.

DBP initiated the SLDP in 2002 as an investment financing facility for a comprehensive transport and related infrastructure and support services. It is being implemented specifically in support of the government’s Strong Republic Nautical Highway. The interconnection is expected to stimulate economic activities in the nearby areas by lowering transport costs and travel time, providing greater mobility for ordinary commuters and opening up new markets for agri-products and tourism-oriented SMEs.
